Five teenagers get lost in the ocean in a dinghy, and get caught a big storm off the coast of Miami, Florida. Suddenly they spot a yacht and go to investigate. But in fact, the yacht was a secret laboratory studying mutated fish resulting from radioactive plankton. One of the specimens escaped, killed the crew, and now the ferocious mutant is gonna party hard with the unsuspecting teenagers.
The editors at DVD TALK did a review of the sci-fi horror film Creatures from the Abyss and here is an excerpt. “There’s something about Plankton that’s hypnotic. At first, the film’s bombastic nature and sheer ineptitude are mesmerizing. But, once the monster’s arrive, the movie becomes a disgusting roller-coaster ride. There are some truly disturbing images and ideas here, and to say that Plankton is sick and twisted would be an understatement. The mixture of practical special effects make-up with stop-motion animation is a welcome change to today’s overuse of CGI. The monsters are particularly disgusting and unique looking. And, I usually don’t mention production design in my reviews, but the interior of the ship in Plankton is very unusual.
